HOUSE OF CARDS

The assignment was to choose a theme that pairs logically with a typeface, and design a series of 10 cards. The cards were to have two sides, image and type anatomy. To accompany the cards, there was to be a brochure as well as a box to house the cards. I chose Helvetica because of its wide use and fame. The theme was the Chicago Transit Authority, which uses Helvetica for its signage. For the image sides, I used photos that I took of the Chicago El and the CTA buses. I added transparent vector of the train map on top of the images. For the type anatomy side, I used letters with type definitions, implementing the same map vector in order to point to the part of the type anatomy being defined. The brochure features a photo of a staircase to the El, with the iconic signage above. The inner folds reveal examples of Helvetica used in signage, because it is an extremely legible font. The inside of the brochure exhibits some of the Pantones of the CTA, all ten of which are used on the cards. The back cover is the El Train map.
